Issues with AtikOne filter wheel - by: dazza1639

Calling all Linux INDI
I'm having issues with my AtikOne when I connect using Ekos the camera connects but the internal filter wheel keeps rotating. This happens whether I connect using Ekos through KStars directly on the RPi or on the remote windows PC. I have tried different USB ports on the USB3 hub and USB ports on the RPi. I have tried 2 different USB cables and 2 different power leads.

I have had this problem previously. Last time I fixed it by connecting the camera directly to the windows pc and connected to the camera and cycled through the filters with the software. Once reconnected to the RPi it appeared to work. Unfortunately, this fix hasn’t worked this time. I’m a bit stuck.

The RPi is an RPi4 running the beta version of StellarMate OS for RPi4

thanks

Guiding of Nexstar 4SE does not work - by: Ben_Kenobi

Hi all,

first of all I am new to this forum. I am a complete linux noob but I love all this great astro projects for raspberry pi so I joined the club. I have to say that you are doing a great work here!

I am running KStars Version 3.3.6 with Ekos on the Astroberry server 1.1.0, MATE Desktop Environment 1.16.2 on a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B.

With Ekos I am running my Nexstar 4SE, my Canon EOS 1300D and a ZWO ASI 120 MC-S.

Everything is running fine, alignment, solver, polar alignment, mount control and imaging - except the guiding. I want to use PHD2 for guiding, but even if I try with the internal guider of Ekos it fails. When I start the guiding process PHD2 selects a star and tries to calibrate. On every calibration step the INDI driver plots the message: [WARNING] PULSE STILL IN PROGRESS, POSSIBLE MOUNT JAM. After 60 calibration steps PHD2 stops the process with the message "RA Calibration Failed: star did not move enough".

I am sure the pulse guiding command is not working, because I cannot hear or see that the mount is moving when the calibration of PHD2 or the internal guider is running. I also get no reaction if I use the manual guide tool of PHD2 to control the mount. I know that the movement rate should be so slow that it is hard to see on the screen, but I even cannot hear any sound from the motor of the mount. In the INDI Control Panel the option "Use Pulse Cmd" is turned On.

If I am using Kstars or Ekos to control the mount everything works fine. I played around with backlash compensation and other options of the guider but nothing seems to make the mount move. I also tried with tracking ON and OFF, it seems to make no difference.

After installation I ran the software updater of the OS once and installed all updates, including updates for KStars and INDI drivers. When I run the software updater now, it does not show any updates for KStars or INDI drivers only for Ubuntu and other applications.

I am looking forward for any helpful hint!

Best regards,

Ben

The GSC catalog is no longer available in KStars 3.3.9 for Mac.

Therefore, it cannot be verified by the simulation driver.

What's interesting... features are displayed, but the top bar remains stopped.

Star drifting during polar alignment - by: khobar

I have a DIY mount (belt drive LX70 - CG5 clone using AstroEQ) that seems to have an issue with tracking speed. With my 80mm scope it doesn't appear to be an issue, but with my 8" SCT, stars drift during polar alignment.

I noticed there seems to be a place to adjust RA and DEC in Ekos (currently set at 15.x, something like that). Is there a procedure for calculating what the values should be?

Using GPS with Astroberry 2.0.0 - by: Avocette

Hi Radek and Astroberry fans,
Trying to set up a fresh Astroberry installion to use with a GPS dongle. I checked that GPSD is running, so I edited /etc/default/gpsd to include DEVICES= "/dev/ttyACM0". The GPS signal is recognised in KStars/Ekos/Indi and updates the location and the time and date, which is fine for that session, but I would like it to also update the RPi4 system clock time. In another installation of KStars etc on the RPi4 using the AstroPi3 Raspian script, I have installed chrony. Should I do this also on Astroberry or did you envisage a different approach? Thanks, Ed

reverse direction back to normal when connecting to Ekos - by: greenwich43

Hi everyone,

I've built this amazing focuser but it won't stay in reverse direction once connected to Ekos through Kstars.

The configuration with Windows app is ok, when I disconnect and I reconnect the focuser to the Windows app, the reverse checkbox stay checked. The fact to connect the focuser to Ekos turns back the reverse mode to normal. (disconnection from Ekos and connection to Windows config app lets appear the reverse checkbox unchecked.

My actual firmware is: myFP2_DRV8825HW203_293
I've also tried with previous firmwares but without but results.

Any ideas ? Do I need to reverse motor wires ?

Thanks a lot for any help and many thanks for your work and your time spent around this project

For those who have the Conky window passing behind the task bar on the top of screen, I found this tweak to adjust:

Edit /home/pi/.conky.rc
Find the line gap_y = 10 and replace with gap_y = 36 (task bar height is 26px + 10px offset)
Save the file and the changes are immediate

Write a guide: astroberry and gps rtc - by: c8hd

Someone can help me gather information about:

1. how to config astroberry to use a smartpone with an app (netGPS) working like a gps
2. how to config astroberry to use the same mobile for RTC from gps

I think that gathering this kind of information can help many people save time and contribute to the development of the project.
When information is organized, it is more accessible.
I'm crazy?

I am designing a raspberry 3/4 based autoguide system that can be independent of the internet, which has as few devices as possible connected, with the power button and with an ssd. For now I am studying the necessary software then I will move on to the hardware.
Every kind of help is appreciated.
After this work , I will share the project.
1.NETGPS

1. First, connect your phone to the astroberry hotspot.
2. Assign a static ip for the phone (every time you connect to hotspot you may have a different ip)
3. Start Kstars and ekos. In the drivers aux tab chose GPS Nmea. Click save.
4. Start NetGPS Server. Create a server with the + sign and enable it. Pay attention to the port number. This one has to match with the port from ekos. I set mine to 50000
5. Start ekos. Go to GPS Nmea tab in the indi driver., choose connection and in the server option put the the static ip of the the phone an the port number and click set. Mine is 10.42.0.45 port 50000. Now go to options and click save to save the configuration.

The phone acts as a server. The indi driver is comunicating via IP with the phone. You need to point the indi driver to the phone, in the GPS Nmea options. The save the configuration.

USB GPS NO FIX Rpi4 Astroberry - by: Tim Roske

I have a U-blox7 USB GPS. I have successfully used it on StellarMate on an Rpi3 using GPSD. It just worked out of the box. Now I am trying to use it on Astroberry Server 2.0 on a Pi4. Ekos says the device is connected, but NO FIX. The light on the dongle is blinking green, indicating that is has determined its position.

I tried playing with the GPSD configuration file in /etc/default/ to change the DEVICE = to “/dev/ttyUSB0” as suggested in another thread, but I get a permissions error when trying to save the changes to the file.

So I am stuck.

Hope someone here has had success they can pass along. Thanks.

Dunno what to make of this. Trying to do polar alignment and going through heck.

Wife is using a CG5-ASGT and 127mm Mak. trying to polar align, star drifts.
Me - using a DIY belt-drive LX70 (CG5) with 8" SCT - star drifts.
Me - using a CEM25p and ETX90 Mak - star drifts.

Didn't have this problem with our 80mm scopes. What are we overlooking?

Can not start ekosin kstars Build: 2020-01-31T22:40:04Z - by: universalmaster

Hi!

I wanted to try the latest version of the linear focusing algorithm, so I updated indi and kstars to the latest nightly, but I can no longer start ekos. This is all I get in the log after pressing the ">" sign to start ekos:

[2020-02-02T11:35:58.968 CET DEBG ][ org.kde.kstars.ekos] - Resetting Ekos Manager...
[2020-02-02T11:35:58.976 CET WARN ][ default] - QSqlDatabasePrivate::removeDatabase: connection 'filter_db' is still in use, all queries will cease to work.
[2020-02-02T11:35:58.976 CET WARN ][ default] - QSqlDatabasePrivate::addDatabase: duplicate connection name 'filter_db', old connection removed.
[2020-02-02T11:35:58.985 CET DEBG ][ org.kde.kstars.ekos.scheduler] - Scheduler Ekos status is 1

Nothing is shown in the message window and it all just "hangs" until I press the "old phone" button to abort the connection. I have tried to reboot, but the same happens.

I use a 'remote' indi server but running on the same host as kstars. If I switch to 'local' in the ekos profile and let ekos start indi, then it seems to work and start the drivers.

If I want to switch to ekos starting indi ('local'), how do I make ekos turn on power to my equipment before launching indi and the drivers? I have a simple shell command to power on (and off) the equipment...

Python and INDI: from BLOBS to numpy.array - by: andreaconsole

Hi everyone,
I'm developing a Python program based on INDI for EAA (Electronically Assisted Astronomy). The interface with INDI is based on this tutorial : indilib.org/develop/tutorials/151-time-l...ith-indi-python.html
My problem is that I don't know how to convert the BLOB bytes I get to numpy.array to allow further processing. Can anybody help me?

<code>
# get image data
img = bp.getblobdata()
# write image data to BytesIO buffer
import io
blobfile = io.BytesIO(img)
# open a file and save buffer to disk
with open("frame.fit", "wb") as f:
f.write(blobfile.getvalue())
</code>

Problems with Bias with DSLR - by: carkinzo

I do not use the CCD to photograph, but the Reflex set in BULB mode.
To make Bias photos, I put the shortest exposure time,
but it is still high compared to 1/8000 of a second that the Reflex
manages to do.
The only way is to set Manual mode directly on the Reflex, but if I do this, Kstars gets stuck on the download
of the first photo.
I did some tests, even to disconnect the reflex
from the INDI Control Panel, from here select the mode
Manual and reconnect the Reflex, but I get the same result.
The only way is to disconnect everything, close Kstars, set up the
Manual mode on the Reflex and then reactivate everything,
but frankly it seems a little uncomfortable!
Am I wrong? Or is it a version bug
3.4.0 Beta 2 for Mac?
Thank you.

Hi Jasem
INDI driver for Canon DSLR Rebel XT (normal mode) doesnt give the right config for this camera. It operate remotely the camera but images arent shown by fits viewer.
For instance the pixel microns value is 22.20 when the right value is 6.41.
The some hapens with the size of the cmos should be 3456×2304 and i can not modifie these values on Ekos.
