vappasswd - by: kamisan

I am trying to thwart my nosy neightbors from gaining access to my Astoberry and wreaking havoc.

I searched the forum for discussions related to changing the password of the VAP. Nothing tangible but I did find a section of the README file at Astroberry's Github repo that looked promising: vappasswd. Here is how I proceeded:

>sudo vappasswd
>Enter user password: astroberry
>Enter new VAP password: nonosyneighbors
>Confirm password: nonosyneighbors
>Password changed!
>You must reboot

After rebooting, when I go to connect to VAP it rejects 'nonosyneighbors' but still accepts 'astroberry'. It's as if my effort was wasted.

I am sure I am doing something stupid.

Thanks.

Unable to change gain settings for Atik Horizon - by: MrGregNog

I have an Atik Horizon CCD. I'm able to connect to it and take pictures with it using Ekos (wonderful software); however, I am unable to change the gain of the camera. It is in the control panel but I cannot change the property. It even shows up in the config .xml file.

I have tried editing the .xml file and manually changing the sequence file to different gains but my pictures are always being taken with a gain of 30. Is there another way or is there something I am missing? Do I need to adjust the offset with the gain? Thanks for any help with this.

Astrometry solver returns to solution star - by: arminpro

Hi,

I had the case that the solver in Ekos was successfully on Mirach star.
After that I selected M31 to slew to with my EQ6 mount.
The mount slewed to M31 but the it returned to Mirach.

Does anybody know why?
Wasn´t the solver ready?

Thanks, Armin

Mounting external drive help needed - by: mpfjr

I bought a 250gb SSD and a SATA to USB3 cable which allows me to plug it in to any usb 3.0 port and use it as an external drive. I tested it with my windows 10 computer and of course worked fine.

I bought it to use with my Raspberry Pi and Stellarmate. I am a newbie to Linux so I don't understand how to get it to mount and become read/writeable so I can have my images saved to it.

When I pull up the device notifier it shows the drive but says "you are not authorized to mount this device.

That is as far as I can go without help. I don't want to mess it up.

What I was thinking of doing is installing the packages that allow Raspberry linux to read/write to NTSF drives that way I could unplug it from the raspberry and plug it into any windows PC to download the images.

Thanks

Ekos Guiding Module/PHD and Dithering - by: wcreech19

A weird thing keeps happening... I connect PHD to Ekos and start calibration/guiding with PHD but for some reason the Ekos module just says it's calibrated. It shows RMS numbers but the graph doesn't seem to show movements. I have to either press "Stop" and then "Guide" in Ekos to get Ekos to connect to PHD properly. This wouldn't be an issue if dithering was working but that's the problem. This is the only way to get dithering to work. I've used PHD and Ekos together plenty of times without this issue but as soon as I started using 3.3.6 it's been happening. Any ideas as to why or how to prevent this from happening? Thanks! -Wes

DMK41 AU02.AS : How to configure it with INDI ? - by: bilbo-le-hobbit

Hello, two years proud owner of a DMK41 camera AU02.AS, one thing I miss: I've never been able to make it work under Linux. I yet have to go through a Windows virtualization, while the rest of my astronomical equipment is well recognized and operational with the INDI protocol under linux.
But yesterday I found a topic on the Imaging Source forum explaining a method for the camera to be recognized via v4l2. I reproduced the same method without frankly understand, but it works! I can now open guvcview and connect the DMK, the video is displayed!
Nice! I can try with Kstars ... The camera is well recognized with v4l2, but the picture is completely buggy

I've taken the same image with guvcview and kstars

What is wrong with the settings?

Capture & Solve -> Slew to Target... - by: maudy

Good news is that RPI3 is doing good with the imaging capture. I hope someone can help me some more. I have a couple of other posts related to this align/slew-to-target, and I am trying again to see if someone can help me understand how to improve the Slew to target.

The symptom is the Slew to target cannot work without some sort of manual intervention for me: nudging to get close enough framing for multiple night imaging sessions.

Slew to target can get my CGEM within 2'. If it works 3-4 more times it can get near 1'. After this, the accuracy is never to 30" save 2 three times in past six months.

It is not clear if I am expecting too much of the CGEM DX, if there is something I can do to improve the CGEM DX, or if there is something to do in process that can make this work better.

GOAL: use scheduler to pick target and let the RPI3 control the equipment for session on 1 or 2 targets, and also reslew close enough to the target after meridian flip. Then repeat on another night to collect more images

QUESTION: when at the sub minute level is there a way to have ekos nudge the mount instead of slewing again? It is this nudging I end up doing manually. If Ekos could nudge the mount, plate solve, and determine how much more to nudge, then this could be perfect.

Background:
- I am imaging with my C11 at f/10, so 2800mm focal length (perhaps slew to target is asking too much of CGEM?)
- The good: image capture is beautifully easy, focuser just works, control via skysafari great.
- The okay: does plate solve okay, it is not as fast as a more powerful PC.
- I need help: slew to target and time/date sync (for another day)

Starlight CCD Crash & AO Crash - by: escriban

I suppose indilib is undergoing some deep changes, isn't it?
It is my only explanation for the the following new quirks, I'm experiencing with the latest build of Indilib.
1. "indi_sx_ccd" gets down with the Starlight Trius SX-H35 and
2. "indi_sx_ao" can't connect anymore to the adaptive optics.
As you see in the logs, the guiding cam Starlight LodestarX2 gets connected, whereas the Trius is not.

in the past these devices where always working flawlessly and unimpeachable. What is happening now?

I'm happy for your help

Flat Focus Position - by: nsbm

I'm struggling to get consistent auto focus with my Moonlite NiteCrawler. One setting that has me confused is on the filters panel from the Focuser tab. There's a column in this grid "Flat Focus Position". Where do these values comes from? They have wildly differing values for my LRGB filters. Lowest value is 49 and highest is 48,000 (and a couple in the 38,000 range) . I typically find good focus in the 49,000 to 50,000 range. These values are not editable, so I assume that they are being derived from somewhere.

Focusing has failed for me every night I've tried to use it - in the morning I find everything aborted and the last images WAY out of focus (10,000 steps or more). Is there a good youtube video that covers setup?

CEM25p first time w/Stellarmate - by: khobar

Tonight on the patio, I connected my Stellarmate and iOptron CEM25p mount and performed my first wireless slew with this combo. I was tickled!

However, I want to be sure this is *normal* behavior. After a few fake gotos I decided to park. The scope slewed w/ DEC=zero marks and RA=90 degrees (horizontal).

I thought maybe Ekos wasn't aware of the zero marks, so I manually moved in DEC until the mount was zeroed.

Now, please forgive me if I'm being a dumba**, but I'm looking at the Ekos screen and it shows RA being , "07h 14m 0s".

Am I having a brain fart, or should this be zero?

Shoestring FCUSB - by: aj55

Dear all,
Strange thing. I use a laptop (W10) with Kstars/Ekos and a Pi running the drivers/PHD2.
When I connect without putting my Shoestring FCUSB in my profile, it isn't available... duh you would say.
However when I put the FCUSB in my profile I get a message like "INDI cannot connect to driver" and it doesn't startup.
Then I remove the FCUSB from my profile and it all starts without problems INCLUDING FCUSB. Now I can use the focus tab.
Wouter, any idea?

Twilight setting in Scheduler no longer functional? - by: El Corazon

Two nights ago, I ran the scheduler for an automated all night capture sequence of M33.
Everything went without a hitch, but in the morning, as it was getting light, I noticed that the scheduler was still running and happily exposing frame after frame of the morning sky.
I double-checked all the settings, the twilight box was ticked.
That never happened before, the scheduler in the past would always and reliably terminate and park the mount when astronomical twilight time was reached.

Here the relevant screenshots and link to the extensive log file for that night.

Stellarmate w/GPS connected to mount w/GPS - by: khobar

My Pi4 Stellarmate is currently connected to my iOptron CEM25p. My Pi4 has a UART-based Neo6M connected. My CEM25p also has GPS. Currently, kstars is set to "GPS updates kstars". I presume the GPS will be the Neo6m and not the iOptron?

I noticed my time top right of the VNC screen is off by an hour (+1) even though I set the time zone to Phoenix. Is there a DST setting I missed?

Bottom of Kstars screen says GPS location, but to the right the numbers are wrong. Currently says +129(degrees) 25' 26", -11(degrees) 05' 46" 17h 51m 15s -39(degrees) 04' 41" (j2019.8) and the numbers change.

Checking INDI control panel, it shows lat (dd:mm:ss) as 33:26:57 which seems correct. Lon, however, is 248:18:29. Why?

Thanks.

TeenAstro driver for INDI - by: Charles

Hello this is my first post here,

I have some experience in ASCOM driver development, and I wish to extend my knowledge to INDI. The goal of this topic is to find some people willing to developp/test a TeenAstro INDI driver.
The TeenAstro protocol overlap to 90% with the ONStep driver, and has TeenAstro has less function than OnStep it is significantly less effort.

I think it is easier to maintain 2 drivers: one for OnStep and one for TeenAstro then every body has the freedom to developp.

Most of the TeenAstro user are in Germany and are former user of the Little Foot or the excellent FS2.
If there are some users in germany that has INDI background I will be happy to support them.

Dithering question when using Phd2 and Ekos - by: jerry

This is a dumb question, as I of course could just try it and experiment, but I'm about to try Dithering for the 1st time...

Both Ekos and Phd2 seem to allow the enabling of dithering. If I configure Ekos to use Phd2 guiding do I also enable Dithering in Ekos or does Phd2 handle all of that?

Also trying a new ZWO ASI224MC as the guide camera rather than my QHY5IllM. Phd2 will directly connect to the ZWO, while (for me) it would only connect to the QHY via indi. This will get closer to matching rlancaste's suggested setup. :)

Thanks.

QHY5 - Exposure issue - by: tkeser

Hi all!
Since INDI update 1.7.5 I have been experiencing strange issue with my QHY5 camera. What happened exactly... exposure of QHY5 takes time as is set, runs fine and smoothly, but downloading a picture to the host takes exactly the same amount of time as exposure does!
That's really annoying thing when I'm taking longer exposure looping images from my QHY5. For example... 10sec exposure cycle takes 20 sec in total (10 sec for exposure and 10 for downloading) instead of 10sec + 1-2sec for downloading and so on... thing getting even worse using longer exposures!
Also, since my QHY5 cam is used primarily as a guider cam, autoguiding performance suffer and often guiding error (drift) runs into "red" zone.

So, my question is; Does anybody else experienced this kind of issue with QHY5 under INDI environment and subsequently, have any meaningful suggestion how to resolve issue? I'll be very grateful!

Btw. my QHY5 cam is connected to nanoPi NEO (on USB2.0, latest Armbian, Bionic) that is accessed through wired network (local subnet, 100Mbps LAN) and controlled with EKOS/KStars on Win10.

Thnx!

ZWO 8-Position EFW Shows only 5 Filter Positions - by: cots

I've been struggling with this issue for several weeks and to no avail, so I am asking the community for help.
My main imaging setup consists of the ZWO ASI1600MM CCD coupled with their ZWO 8-position EFW.
I use KStars/Ekos/Indi along with Stellarmate as my software control and it truly is an amazing integration of quality modules needed for astrophotography.
Prior to my upgrading to the 8-position EFW, I had been using ZWO's 5-position miniEFW and my system worked flawlessly for just about 2 years.
Once I decided to incorporate NB filters with my LRGB filters, it made sense for me to upgrade my EFW to an 8-position version.
That's when the trouble began. I cannot get the 8-position ZWO EFW to show more than 5 filter slots. I've loaded the recommended filter wheel drivers from ZWO and those from ASCOM (Windows 10 environment).
When using Ekos, the filter wheel is recognized, but only 5-slots show up. I cannot add nor configure more slots. However, if I use software like APT Tools or SharpCap, the filter wheel ISrecognized and listed as an 8-position device.
I've tried installing KStars/Ekos/Indi on a dedicated Linux machine and the same problem exists.....8-position EFW shows only 5-slots.
I've attached two screen shots of the filter wheel equippage from Ekos.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
