I'm having a large amount of stability issues, and have decided to rebuild my system from scratch. ( app crashing and usb device issues)

What OS / Version should I pick to get the most stable solution for KStars / Ekos / Indi.

Been getting to know KStars/Ekos better and have a question regarding the difference between the controls/config settings in INDI and EKOS. In some instances they seem to do the same thing and I'm not sure if I should be configuring in INDI control panel or EKOS.

Hi everyone
Capture downloads a few frames and then crashes, disappearing from the screen. A power butten hard reboot is necessary.

As I posted before, the KStars & Ekos UI is awkward to use with a VNC connection from a tablet.

Hey guys.
Completely new user here.

So, I'm stuck even before I've properly begun.
I've connected to the Stellarmate WiFi network with my tablet. No problem. Started the app and scanned for the network. Found it almost instantly.
As this is the first time I'm launching the app authentication is required. Ok, so I go to the Stellarmate website on my PC to submit the serial number in order to get the license key. Worked fine.

But when I put in the info in the form on the app and click 'register', it searches and searches for about a full minute before giving up and giving me a message like 'please make sure the Stellarmate is connected to your network'. My network?
I've connected my tablet to Stellarmate's network. The Stellarmate is not connected to any network.
What am I missing here?
(I fear it's rather fundamental. But I'm completely new at this and my experience with networks is limited to setting up a WiFi extender in my house)

Announcing the new INDI Web Manager App program

Now, Mac users will be able to launch an INDI Web Manager on their Mac OS X machines just as easily as Linux users currently do!

This program works on both Mac OS X and Linux machines. I have prepared a preliminary dmg for Mac OS X and am currently working on getting a Debian package set up for Linux. I have been working hard on this program over the past week and I think it is now ready for extensive testing.

What it does:
- Allows easy and extensive configuration of the options for an INDI Web Manager and an INDI server.
- Makes it easy to set up a Stand alone INDI Server on OS X. (Basically what the Cloudmakers former INDIServer program did)
- Allows the setup of an INDI Web Manager on an OS X machine (which was formerly VERY difficult)
- Note that having an INDI Web Manager running on a remote OS X machine will facilitate stopping, starting, and configuring the INDI Server over the network from a client such as KStars or via a web browser on the local network.
- Provides a GUI interface for Starting, Stoping, Accessing, Configuring, and Monitoring an INDI Web Manager and INDI Server on OS X and Linux

Please test with your OS X system if you can.

Hello,

I have a probably very dumb question: I installed all bleeding stuff for Fedora (dnf install libindi-bleeding indi-\*-bleeding indi-atik kstars-bleeding --allowerasing) but I can't see the Toupcam driver.
It looks like the driver is not part of the OBS repository.

Am I missing something?

Hello everyone,
I'm on a professional project involving sending serial commands with MATLAB to my Skywatcher Virtuoso (also known as the Orion starblast autotracker). I followed the skywatcher commands set according to the PDF attached. Unfortunately, I ran the bootloader mode with the command (':Q155AA') and now the telescope won't move an inch.
Anyone already had this problem ?

Unable to change gain settings for Atik Horizon - by: MrGregNog

I have an Atik Horizon CCD. I'm able to connect to it and take pictures with it using Ekos (wonderful software); however, I am unable to change the gain of the camera. It is in the control panel but I cannot change the property. It even shows up in the config .xml file.

I have tried editing the .xml file and manually changing the sequence file to different gains but my pictures are always being taken with a gain of 30. Is there another way or is there something I am missing? Do I need to adjust the offset with the gain? Thanks for any help with this.

Yesterday, I wrote a post about not being able to change the gain settings for my Atik Horizon. The settings had been set to read only and an update was pushed to the nightly. I just installed the new nightly build and attempted to run Ekos and my driver crashed. This is what the log read on the driver control panel:

Is there a way to draw a box around a star in order to read the peak pixel value? Right now, I have to zoom in greatly and sweep the "finger" over each pixel to sample it.

I have a new version of the lx200 (Meade) driver available and do not have access to an lx200GPS scope

I have tested myself with my 497 based autostar and true circa 2002 lx200 classic.

The driver changes are primarily adding a mutex lock on anything that touches 'tty' and also extending the size of the read buffer in isSLewComplete to handle from 1 to 33 char length responses (33 chars from lx200 classic, a few chars from autostar and lx200gps).

The issue I believe resolved was when indi was used with the scope at the other end of a tcp link (not indi, just scope). The SLewComplete was only reading up to8 chars with a flush after read, but at same time the IsSlewCOmplete was executing there was also a :GR# executing so slew never finished and "GR# failed every time because of the flush after read in IsSlewComplete, forever cycle of Error Reading RA/DEC after a slew attempt.

Any takers?

I can supply source or binaries for Ubuntu or Raspberry pi

I'm sure I am in the minority here but I have low vision. The last I looked through a scope was 40 years ago, back when my vision was a bit better.

Having said that I find KStars to be very difficult on my eyes. The stars are tiny and there is not much differentiation between bright stars and faint ones. In my opinion it looks nothing like what my CCD delivers where star disc size varies significantly with magnitude.

To the best of my ability I've looked through all options in KStars but I can't get the same experience as I do with C2A which unfortunately is Windows-only.

when I am adding an eyepeace with a focal length of 8 mm which enlarges the magnification of my telescope, where do I have to put in this information in Ekos/Kstars respectively Indi, that the solver is able to solve?

I am trying to thwart my nosy neightbors from gaining access to my Astoberry and wreaking havoc.

I searched the forum for discussions related to changing the password of the VAP. Nothing tangible but I did find a section of the README file at Astroberry's Github repo that looked promising: vappasswd. Here is how I proceeded:

>sudo vappasswd
>Enter user password: astroberry
>Enter new VAP password: nonosyneighbors
>Confirm password: nonosyneighbors
>Password changed!
>You must reboot

After rebooting, when I go to connect to VAP it rejects 'nonosyneighbors' but still accepts 'astroberry'. It's as if my effort was wasted.

I am sure I am doing something stupid.

Guide image transfer from remote INDI server - by: nikulsuthar

Hi,

I'm trying to learn online the configuration of remote INDI server on RPi 3 B+ and running KStars, Ekos, PHD2 and ANSVR locally on a PC. I get that image transfer can take time from the RPI to local PC over the WiFi. It is fine to have such image transfer lag ( say for example 2-3 seconds) from the imaging camera to local PC for capturing and for plate solving. That much additional lag time after every image transfer from the imaging camera will not affect much overall performance. But how about the images from the guide camera? If they also take some (say for example 2 seconds) lag time to transfer from RPi to local PC and then send the autoguiding command back then will it not affect the autoguiding very much as many a times my autoguiding frame rate is less than 2 seconds? In this example the autoguiding frame rate will it not get halved? Or am I not knowing something big here? Or is it that the autoguiding images are not transferred to the client PC for processing before PHD2 sends back autoguiding pulses to the RPi? In short is there any way to avoid such lag in sending autoguiding pulses? If I run the KStars, Ekos, PHD2 and ANSVR on the RPi then this image transfer over WiFi will not be needed and there should not arise any question of lag in sending autoguiding pulses.
