motorised polar alignment - by: Gonzothegreat

As I might not be able to polar align the mount this time, the observatory will have to be kept shutdown for a few more months.
Several months ago (even years maybe), I was looking for a way to motorised the polar alignment (as long as the mount is roughly aligned).

Obviously if you are lucky enough to own a Merlino Uno mount it's build in.

(mute the music.... it's seriously annoying)

On the DIY approach the one I've seen is from Kevin Sipprell www.scopefocus.info/polar-alignment
I do have a HEQ5 and his mount is a Celestron CGEM, but the PA method is the same.
From the link, have a look at the two videos, I do think there is potential.
The motors used are geared nema17 stepper 90:1 similar to this one

I have also found the following pictures (from this post ) which are very interesting:

I'm going to take a few measurements on my HEQ5 before I go back home and start a little project.
Being able to remotely set and adjust the polar alignment as needed is plus for any remote observatory.
